GENERAL 4-H RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. All 4-H beef, cat, dairy, dog, goat, horse, llama, poultry, rabbit, sheep, and swine entry forms are due in the Fair office, or can be entered on-line by July 25th. If July 25th falls on a weekend, entries will be accepted in the Fair office on the following Monday without penalty. Late entries will be charged a fee of $10.00 per head through July 31st. After July 31st late entries may not be accepted.
2. Record books, posters, photography and club banners can be entered on-line through July 8th. Still life entries such as Arts and Crafts, Horticulture, Clothing, etc. can be placed on-line through August 5th. Entry times are printed in each division.
3. Horse entries are due to show committee by July 1st.
4. Fair Management will not be responsible for loss or damage to any exhibit or for any accident during the Fair.
5. All departments will be under the supervision of competent superintendents.
6. Only 4-H members who are currently enrolled in 4-H are eligible to exhibit in the 4-H departments. The exhibit must represent the labor and ability of the 4-H member entering the exhibit. Exhibits must be made during the current 4-H year as part of the member’s 4-H project. No school projects.
7. All entries will be judged under the Danish System which is a group system of awards. The judge has the privilege of putting as many items or animals as they see fit in each grouping. Should no entry be worthy of a first, second or third place, no award will be made.
8. Only one entry is permitted by each exhibitor in each lot, except where specified.
9. 4-H members may compete only in those projects in which they are enrolled. Members simultaneously enrolled in 4-H and FFA must have separate projects or animals for each program during the same calendar year. The 4-H program year is October 1 to September 30. For example: a member may carry a dairy project for each FFA and 4-H as long as he or she uses a different animal and project for each program. The goal of both organizations is youth education. Involvement in both programs should result in the enhancement of the educational experience.
10. Judging teams will be admitted on judging days when accompanied by their 4-H leader or by a 4-H superintendent. Apply at office.
11. All exhibits are to remain for the duration of the Fair and cannot be removed before the time set. See individual department listings for the release times.
12. Sick animals will be released only by a veterinarian or Superintendent.
13. Medications may be given only with the permission of the Superintendent and under the care of a veterinarian.
14. Veterinary services and medications must be paid for by exhibitor.
15. One leader from each 4-H club will be allowed to pick up the passes needed for that club before the Fair opens. 4-H and worker passes are available only to persons whose presence is required every day.
16. As a 4-H participant, you are on exhibit to other 4-members and the public. Behavior and appearance that show pride and respect for yourself and the 4-H organization is expected of all 4-H exhibitors. Courteous, appropriate language is expected at all times. Wearing clean, appropriate clothing while at the Fair is part of your participant responsibility.
17. Any member smoking in or about the barns will forfeit one half of their premiums to the Fair. On the second offense, all premiums will be forfeited and the exhibitor will be discharged from the Fair.
18. Any member guilty of drinking alcoholic beverages or using drugs on the fairgrounds or parking lots will be barred from all 4-H events and forfeit premiums to the Fair.
19. Primary 4-H members (completing kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade) may exhibit only in Division 20, Primary Member Exhibits. No exceptions. Primary members do not receive premiums, ribbon only.
20. The definition of Novice is a contestant in 4-H and in his or her first year in showing a specific species.
21. Saturday night after 9 p.m. each exhibitor must clean their own stall(s) to the floor. This includes removing all duct tape, etc. that you have used in your stall area.
