Entries can be placed on-line through July 7th, or on July 11^th in the 4-H Exhibit Building between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Division 14

1. All entries in all classes must be photos taken by the exhibitor during the current 4-H year. All exhibitors must be enrolled in a 4-H photography project.

2. Entries may be film or digital captures which have not been manipulated in any way. All digital photos must be printed on photographic paper.

3. All entries must:

· Be mounted on poster board, not on card stock.

· Be firmly mounted with rubber cement, mounting tissue, or photo stickers. Note: water based glue will cause photos to “bubble”.

· Mounted with margins of 2 ½” inches or less for single photo board entries.

· Multiple photo boards, such as photo story, theme board, photo journalism story board, or 4-H presentation board must be mounted on one piece of poster board with exterior margins not exceeding 2 ½” inches.

4. Framed or unmounted entries will not be accepted.

5. Photos, except enlargements may not exceed 4” x 6” inches. Cropping is permitted, however the final product must be a reasonable size.

6. Photos 5” x 7” inches or larger must be entered as enlargements, (lots 9 & 10).

7. Mounting tabs may be added if you do not want the poster boards stapled.

8. Each entry must be presented with the photo label # CO890 filled out and attached to photo entry. Photo label available on-line.

· Photo label must be attached to photo. Slide top of card under the photo up to the dotted line and firmly attach to poster board. The card may extend somewhat over the bottom edge of the poster board. Lable must be attached for photo to be accepted, so be sure to get it ahead of time.

· Fill in card with the following information:

ü Caption - optional but recommended.

ü Exhibitor - your name.

ü Name of camera.

ü Indicate SLR (manual controls), P&S (point & shoot) or digital.

ü Focus: manual or auto. P&S Cameras have auto focus.

ü Film, ASA/ISO- specify the film speed e.g. 100, 200, 400.

ü If SRL (manual), specify f-stop & shutter speed used.

ü Print made by: exhibitor or commercial printer.

ü Years in project: how many years enrolled in a 4-H photography project

ü Add your club’s name on bottom of the card.

4-H PHOTOGRAPHY SCORE SHEET. For all classes unless indicated otherwise, entries will be judged according to the following criteria:

1. Correct Category (appropriate class and lot) 15 points

2. Quality (technically well done, in focus, good lighting 25 points

3. Interest (Convey a message, uncluttered, subjects well placed) 25 points

4. Composition 25 points

· Simplicity 5 points

· Used rule of thirds 5 points

· Good use of lines 5 points

· Good use of balance 5 points

· Minimize distraction from point of interest 5 points

5. Mounting (neat, secure, attractive) 10 points

SCORE SHEET FOR ENTRIES WITH MULTIPLE PHOTOS.

· Correct category 10%

· Quality 30%

· Composition/Creativity 45%

· Presentation 15%

CLASS A – PHOTOGRAPHY – include age group on entry (Junior, Intermediate, Senior) and project year.
Maximum of four lots per exhibitor and one entry per lot.

LOT NUMBER

  1. People: one print of 1 or more people.

  2. Animal: one print of 1 or more animals.

  3. Landscape: one print of a landscape, view of scenery showing an overview of an area. No seascapes or boats.

  4. Building: one print of 1 or more buildings.

  5. Flowers: one print of 1 or more flowers.

PREMIUMS: 4.00   3.00   2.50

LOT NUMBER

  6. Action photo: 1 print, the viewer must be able to determine that action is in progress.

  7 Close-up photo: 1 print, the subject should take up most of the photo.

  8. Flash photo: 1 print, must be evident that a flash was used to enhance the photo.

  9. Enlargements: Color or black/white, one 5” x 7” or 8” x 10”, commercially printed.

10. Dark room skills: One B & W enlargement printed by exhibitor.

11. Special effects photo: One print using special effects such as double exposure, painting with light, use of special filters, or trick photography. Explain on exhibit card which special effect was used.

CLASS B – PHOTO BOARDS - include age group on entry (Junior, Intermediate, Senior) and project year.

One lot per exhibitor and one entry per lot.

LOT NUMBER

1. Photo Story: 2 to 6 prints showing a sequence of events. Title and captions required.

CLASS C – PHOTOJOURNALISM - Photo or photos depicting a newsworthy event

Include age group on entry (Junior, Intermediate, Senior) and project year.

One lot per exhibitor and one entry per lot.

LOT NUMBER

1. One 4” x 6” or 5” x 7” photo with caption.

2. Storyboard, 2 to 4 photos with captions.

3. Album, minimum of 10 newsworthy photos with suggested headlines and captions.

    Indicate whether or not the photo(s) was published in a news media. If so include published copy.

CLASS D – 4-H PHOTO RECORD - include age group on entry (Junior, Intermediate, Senior) and project year.

One lot per exhibitor and one entry per lot.

LOT NUMBER

1. One photo suitable for promoting 4-H clubs. 4-H emblem must be included in photo.

2. 2 to 6 prints documenting a 4-H project of any kind. Include title and captions.

CLASS E – 4-H PHOTO ALBUMS - include age group on entry (Junior, Intermediate, Senior) and project year.

One entry per lot and one entry per lot.  Please label current years prints if previous year’s prints are included. All photos in the album must have been taken by the exhibitor.

LOT NUMBER

1. First year album of at least 25 prints.

2. Second year album of at least 30 prints taken in current year.

3. Third year album of at least 35 prints taken in current year.

4. Fourth year album of at least 40 prints taken in current year.

LOT NUMBER

1. Film or digital capture manipulated to enhance and printed by exhibitor.

· On an index card describe what you did to arrive at the finished image.

· Must have original image included in the presentation.

· Finished image must be no larger than 5” x 7”.

· All entries must be printed on photographic paper.

· Exhibit must include: original image, finished image, and an index card mounted on poster board, as well as 25 photo label #CO890.
